A Musical Wander with Glenn Fosbraey and Daniel Ash
Description
Glenn Fosbraey and Daniel Ash will jointly present their new work on a night of musical wonder. As Glenn presents his new book, Reading Song Lyrics, Daniel Ash will be playing songs from his new album, Upstairs To Finish A Dream!
About the book, Reading Song Lyrics
Explores how popular songs are analysed, emphasising an interdisciplinary approach to understanding their multimodal nature, from lyrical storytelling and listener interpretation to cultural significance and the impact of
visuals.
Popular song is an art form which reaches far beyond the music itself, and to fully appreciate its impact, the modern critic needs to analyse the elements that we find outside the song as well as those they find within it.
About Glenn Fosbraey
Glenn is a non-fiction writer specialising in the study of popular music and has published over 50 books, chapters, and articles on the subject. Glenn has also featured as a 'guest expert' across various UK media including The Independent, Daily Mail, BBC Five Live, and the London Evening Standard, and Internationally in Germany's Tagen Spiegel, France 24, and Radio New Zealand.
About Upstairs To Finish A Dream
“I wanted this album to feel like a private conversation between the listener and the music itself," Ash explains. “It’s something you get lost in - a space for one person at a time. It’s not a party record; I love Led Zep 4 as much as the next guy, but this is an album for the lonely hours.”
Drawing inspiration from Berlin-era Bowie, McCartney II, The Twilight Zone, and the writings of Richard Brautigan, Upstairs to Finish a Dream offers a cinematic and immersive listening experience.
About Daniel Ash
Daniel Ash, the creative force behind Teenage Waitress, is set to release his third studio album, Upstairs to Finish a Dream. Following the acclaim of his previous albums, Love & Chemicals and Your Cuckoo, this new record marks an ambitious departure into more introspective and conceptual territory, courtesy of Ash’s longstanding partnership with producer and contributor Michael Bissett.
